YMMV / Deacon Blue

  • Archive Panic : The group had masses of b-sides, due to the tendency to use different tracks per format or reissues of singles having different b-sides. Eventually well addressed by the Edsel Deluxe Editions in 2012. There are still a few uncollected, such as "That Brilliant Feeling" #2 and #3, and the demo of "Take The Saints Away" that appeared on a compilation in 1986 (it was the first of their songs to see release).
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment : The group does the occasional one off genre experiment - two that spring to mind are the b-side "Punch And Judy Man" (the group's only attempt at reggae) and the proggy jam "That Brilliant Feeling" from the same era. The group never attempted anything that sounded like them.
  • Creator Backlash: Played for Laughs in drummer Dougie Vipond's other career as a TV presenter, where his supposed dislike of "Dignity" is an occasional Running Gag.
  • First Installment Wins: Their first album Raintown is considered to be their best.
  • Older Than They Think : The group were such prolific songwriters early on that in addition to managing to release more outtakes as b-sides during 1986-1987's "Raintown" period than were tracks on the actual album (some of which were even carried over to their second album "When The World Knows Your Name"'s b-sides), they had already written the songs "Cover From The Sky" and "James Joyce Soles" that would not appear till their third album, "Fellow Hoodlums" in 1990.
  • Signature Song: "Dignity", although "Real Gone Kid" and "Wages Day" are well liked too.
