- Awesome Music: The film generously uses a boatload of '70s rock from the likes of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Foghat, Ted Nugent, KISS, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith...the list goes on and on.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Wooderson is easily the most popular character from the film due to Matthew McConaughey's iconic performance and his famous lines, despite his only appearing in a handful of scenes.
- Memetic Mutation:
- "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."
- "Alright! Alright! Alright!" has gotten some traction in recent years and especially after Matthew McConaughey's Career Resurrection, which saw him dropping the catchphrase in his award acceptance speeches. He's also put it on t-shirts in his clothing line.
- "Be a lot cooler if you did."
- Misaimed Fandom: Richard Linklater didn't intentionally make it a stoner movie. But, considering every teenaged protagonist, including those that are definitely underage, smokes pot and/or drinks beer, the mistake is understandable.
- Unpopular Popular Character: Wooderson is seen by pretty much everyone he isn't friends with as a loser in a permanent state of arrested development. But he's usually highlighted by many fans as easily the best part of the film due to McConaughey's performance and getting some of the most memorable lines.
