YMMV / Dark Nest Trilogy

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: The series is best-known as the one where Jaina and Zekk have lots of hot, sweaty bug sex. This is only ever implied, and the one time they are shown waking up lying on top of each other, Zekk is fully clothed, Jaina is "scantily-clad" and rapidly gets dressed, and all they did was cuddle.
    • On the other hand, in another scene, it's one of the few times Star Wars uses the word sex at all.
Leia: "I didn't think Ryloth had any true flowers."
Alema: "We have sex. And males who want sex bring-"
      Leia: "I get the picture."
  • Just Here for Godzilla: A number of people read the books just for the subplot with Luke and Leia finally learning about their mother.
  • The Scrappy: A lot of fans found the Killiks annoying and generic, especially after the Vong (who were certainly memorable, if nothing else). Particularly as it looks like we're supposed to sympathize at least to some degree with either them or the Jedi who become Joiners and support them, when it's VERY hard to do so.
    • On the other hand they also demonstrate what happens when outsiders interfere, whether their intentions are good note  or bad note , in an alien culture they don't understand; and, in the case of the titular Dark Nest itself, how the members of that culture end up being exploited by said outsiders. A refreshingly cerebral storyline for Star Wars really.
  • Seasonal Rot: The preceding New Jedi Order series was controversial, but it's generally agreed that this series is when the forward progression of the Star Wars Legends timeline started to really go downhill. The follow-ups to this series were the equally poorly received Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi.
  • Squick: Luke uses the Force to make a pair of Ishi Tib find him attractive (for reference, male Ishi Tib look like this). He was just trying to use the Force to make them see him more favorably so they'd answer his questions, but he overdid it a little. Doubles as a Moment of Funny, particularly Mara putting her hand over young Ben's eyes
