• Alas, Poor Scrappy: Some fans feel that Veronica deserved better than being characterized as a Disposable Fiancé with sociopathic tendencies.
• Angst? What Angst?: It's a bit off-putting to see Simon easily getting over the trauma of being a Casting Couch whore and drug addict after reconciling with Conor. But then again, it could be just him trying to conceal his personal shame to avoid troubling his lover.
• Anvilicious: The story hammers in the point that discrimination is wrong no matter what.
• Base-Breaking Character: Gale. Some people are rightfully disgusted by his immoral actions while others are fascinated with his characterization.
• Draco in Leather Pants: Gale has quite the following among fans of this work and Guardians of the Lamb.
• Iron Woobie: After all they've been through, both Conor and Simon come to exemplify this trope thanks to their enduring love for one another.
• No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: The T-Rex CEO uses the rumors of Simon being a serial killer to make more money, but draws a line when it comes to him being outed as gay to the public.
• Why Would Anyone Take Him Back?: Conor doesn't expect Simon to take him back after the way he harshly blamed his ex for how their relationship turned out in the past. Fortunately for him, things do turn out better for both men after they talk things out.
