YMMV / Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2017)

• Contested Sequel: Or Contested Prequel in this case. The show got a lot of negative reactions from fans, mainly due to its cheap, uninspired humor, many of the characters undergoing Flanderization and/or becoming outright unlikable, most of episodes' plot tending to come off as unoriginal or idiotic, the unappealing character designs, and, above all, the lack of concern for continuity with the two movies despite, in theory, being a prequel series. The show does still have fans who can forgive said flaws, though; online reviewer Mr. Coat, for instance, praised the series for its animation and voice acting while also arguing that it managed to successfully capture the zany spirit of the films.
• Suspiciously Similar Song: There are some episodes that would contain a song that is a soundalike to a licensed song (EX: During the montage of the friendship between Sam and her pet cloud in the episode "Cloudy with a Chance of Clouds", a song that sounds like "Happy Together" can be heard).
• What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The series has lots of darker episodes, a few edgy adult jokes, some teen situations, and massive child abuse from Mayor Shellbourne towards his son Gil even to the point where he puts him in dangerous situations and does not care if he's okay.
