YMMV / Carry On Loving

Go To

  • Aluminium Christmas Trees:
    • The bus Bertram travels on has a bus conductor, which was discontinued in Britain in (at least) the 1980s when buses gained electrical technology to take passenger tickets at the driver's seat.
    • Sidney drenches himself with a bucket of icy water from the fire extinguisher area in Rogerham Mansions. Today, you'd either see a fire extinguisher pump or a bucket of sand, but mostly the former.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Mr. Snooper's housekeeper with a crush, Miss Dempsey, is much loved by fans of the film as despite having little screentime, Patsy Rowlands' performance is considered one of the funniest parts of the film.
  • Fan Nickname: Some fans give Miss Dempsey the first name "Patsy" (after her actress, Patsy Rowlands) which was popularised by the unofficial sequel Tie-In Novel Carry On Loving: The WICKEDLY funny story that starts where the film ends.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Jenny only sparking interest in Terry after she has a makeover (read: wears a short skirt with prominent cleavage) would unfortunately mirror her actress Imogen Hassall's career. Known for being a Ms. Fanservice, the film industry later discarded her (presumably for younger actresses), and other tragedies in her life led to her suicide in 1980.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Special Effect Failure: When Miss Dempsey throws Gripper through the window, Patsy Rowlands is clearly throwing a dummy dressed like Bernard Bresslaw.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: While Sally showing off her Orlon underwear to Bertram made sense for 1970, Orlon fibers were discontinued in 1990.
  • Values Dissonance: The implication that women would be much happier if they were married - shown through Sophie, who's probably still with Sidney in a hope that he'll one day ask her, and immediately jumping the gun when Mr. Snooper shows up.
