YMMV / Breathless

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Neither of the two main actors thought the film would be successful. Jean-Paul Belmondo was very surprised by the warm reception the film received. Immediately after production he was convinced it was so bad that he thought the film would never be released, while Jean Seberg felt the shoot was incredibly disorganised and was highly doubtful about the film's commercial viability.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Martial Solal's super-jazzy score truly brings this film to life, paying tribute to the film noir works which inspired it. If you enjoyed Yoko Kanno's score for Cowboy Bebop, then you'll find a lot to love here.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Jean Seberg's character tells Michel she's pregnant. Some years later, when she was pregnant in Real Life, the FBI spread rumors that a black man had fathered her baby in retaliation for her civil rights activism. She was so distressed that she went into premature labor and the baby died.
    • Jean Seberg's character mentions how she is afraid of growing old. Jean Seberg committed suicide at the age of 40.
