YMMV / Bloody Jack

Go To

  • Genius Bonus: The series is chock full of folk songs and allusions to folklore. Knowing how the songs and stories go (and some of them are fairly obscure) makes the story much better.
  • Les Yay: Following her Fake-Out Make-Out with Jacky, Clarissa seems to have liked it.
  • Moe: Clementine's big blue eyes? Check. Adorable freckles? Check? Lawson-Peabody Standard-Issue Meido Outfit? Double-Check.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Scrogg viciously assaults the pregnant Mairead
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • After witnessing the hanging of a girl her own age at Newgate Prison, Jacky has repeated nightmares and fears she'll end her days on the gallows—a fear that, in part, prompts her to seek a lawful life as a sailor rather than continue as a thief. Throughout the series, she continues to have nightmares and is so certain she's going to be hanged that, when in danger, she consoles herself by remembering "a girl born to be hanged isn't likely to be [drowned/shot/starved/whatever trouble she's currently in]."
    • Appropriately, Jacky's nightmares, including Pirates with rotting heads, and being chained to an anchor with other girls and thrown overboard. She rarely can sleep alone.
      • They're also signs of PTSD, which is the most understandable thing in the world after what she's gone through.
