YMMV / Between Yearning And Obsession

Go To

  • Adorkable: Glen’s romantic interest towards Julia. Full. Stop.
  • Die for Our Ship: It comes to no surprise that Camille is one of the most hated characters, especially now that Julia is leaning more towards Glen.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: A vast majority of the fans ship Julia with Glen because of how the latter treats her with genuine kindness as opposed to the cruel treatment the poor girl suffers from the world itself.
  • Inspiration Nod: The tone of the story has a lot of the themes with the work of Marquis De Sade, Especially when Julia is put into situations were Juila gets abused or hurt by people in a more powerful postion. Julia is also very much behavior wise reminiscent to the Marquis's Character Justine from the book with that name. Julia's name is noticeably close to that of Juliette, the lead in the other infamous work by the French Author. It should be noted that while this story can be dark, it pales in comparison to how dark it can be.
  • Real Politik: While it seems odd and frankly cruel for the prince to want to murder Julia, politically it is a very logical option. Due to her being the previous king's child, therefore his aunt, she has a legitimate claim on the throne. Combine that with a marriage alliance with Vestris' family and that is a formidable political that could very easily cause an overthrow of the monarchy or challange the succession process, though given the actions of the king, he may have more personal reasons.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: One of the issues that folks have had with the story and is brought up when critizing is how everyone is mean and cruel to Julia and the lead for seemingly no reason.
  • Woobie: Julia is a nice girl who just happens to be in a Crapsack World.
