YMMV / Bee Swarm Simulator

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "Overflowin'", the music that plays in the 30 Bee Zone and in the 35 Bee Zone, really gives the feeling of a final level.
  • Creepy Cute: Even the game's creepiest mobs, such as the Spider and the Scorpions, look rather cute due to the game's simplistic artstyle.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Photon Bee's exclusive ability, Beamstorm. Using this ability lets it fire 20 beams of light from the sky (the number of which increases by 3 per level) which collects and doubles all pollen from the flowers they hit. To give you a good idea of just how powerful this is, if you use it early on in the Ant Challenge, there's a good chance that you'll end up getting Zerg Rushed by ants summoned by the pollen collected from the beams.
    • Tabby Bee. While pretty mundane at first, with average pollen collection and conversion to honey, its ability, Tabby Love, permanently increases its pollen collection (including from its Scratch ability) and conversion by 1% per ability token, capping at 1000, therefore increasing this bee's collection and conversion by 11, giving it the best of both.
    • Vicious Bee, with its Impale ability, which deals lots of damage in addition to its already stellar attack power. It even increases based on attack buffs.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Onett lampshades how the bees in this game don't have stingers during his third Star Journey quest. Fast forward to the September 2018 update, which introduces Stingers and Vicious Bee, who technically has one. Even more hilarious is how the aforementioned quest is a blue-focused quest, which is Vicious Bee's color.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Detractors often brush this game as just another simulator simply because, well, it has "Simulator" in the title.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Why is your Tabby Love so low?"Explanation
    • Oh-nayExplanation
    • Onett delaying updates.Expanation
    • Get stick bugged lolExplanation
  • Memetic Troll: Due to how often updates get delayed, Onett has become this. It helps that he's already a bit of a Trolling Creator and even Onett himself has eventually decided to roll with it.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Gummy Bear crosses it by killing the player for "not seeing clearly" after giving his "Goo is sweeter than honey" monologue.
  • That One Boss: Even with the game's cutesy artstyle and simplistic premise, there are a few bosses to watch out for:
    • While Stick Bug starts out pretty straightforward at first, he slowly becomes more brutal the higher his level gets. His attacks can become a problem when you have to resort to using tokens to make your bees stronger. Stick Nymphs become more threatening as he starts summoning more and more at a time. He can make himself invincible by diving into the flowers, forcing players to collect from the spots where he's hiding to force him back out, and at Level 6 onwards, he can even build totems to increase his defense. There's a reason why you're encouraged to work together with other players to fight him.
    • The Coconut Crab can also be a bit of a pain for unprepared players. For starters, it's level 12, meaning you'll have to feed plenty of Treats to your bees to even scratch the thing. Then there's the fact that its pincers can reach far and fast, and it can also rain down coconuts to crush you right there and then. Oh, and you have to defeat it if you want to access its cave. Want to get access to the Coconut Canister and Coconut Clogs? Good luck.
