  • Second Season Downfall/They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: A lot of big changes were made at the start of Season 2, coincidentally or not around the time that creator Marco Pennette left and Chuck Lorre became the sole showrunner. Drew and Gina were now written as love interests, which meant writing out their respective partners Adriana and Eli, the latter of whom had been a lead character in Season 1. Drew's ex and daughter were also mostly shoved offscreen. And Gina becoming a millionaire from a patient's will and buying the nursing home was a huge turnaround from her underemployed background in S1. In the upshot some of the viewers from the first season were alienated and the show wasn't renewed for a third.
  • Strangled by the Red String:
    • The Will They or Won't They? subplot for Gina and Drew in Season 2 felt a bit forced. In Season 1, the vibe between the two was more Like Brother and Sister. For them to become love interests, the show needed to establish a compelling Opposites Attract dynamic between them, but instead the second season just had Drew suddenly become attached to her, without much explanation beyond gratitude for saving his life. Meanwhile, Gina's feelings for him never got articulated much aside from jealousy toward any other women in his life.
    • The Bette/Spencer pairing toward the end of Season 2 was a similar case of an unconvincing Opposites Attract pairing. Spencer's interest in Silver Vixen Bette made sense, but she seemed like the last person who would be charmed by his outspoken blowhard personality, making it a case of What Does She See in Him?.
