YMMV / Avatar: The Last Airbender "The Siege of the North, Part 1"

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: Zuko's assurance to Iroh that "We'll meet again" takes on a whole new meaning when we learn that Iroh said almost the exact same thing over his son's grave.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Hahn uses the same pronunciation for Sokka (soak-a) that is used in the reviled adaptation of Book One: Water. Worth noting that it's arguable he was doing it intentionally as an insult to Sokka.
    • Zhao proclaims how history will long discuss him and his great deeds here in this battle. Not only does he lose this battle in the next episode, but The Legend of Korra reveals that he ends up being completely forgotten by history to the point that Aang's own children don't recognize him at all when they encounter his rambling self in the Spirit World.
  • Inferred Holocaust: Aang claims to have taken out "a dozen Fire Navy ships." While they were a mile-ish out at sea. In freezing cold water. And that's not counting all the other waterbenders assaults on the Fire Navy, or the massive fire balls taking out large portions of the city. No deaths occur onscreen, but it's reasonable to assign this episode a fairly high body count.
