YMMV / Avalon (2001)

  • Subbing Versus Dubbing: Originally released in Polish with (Japanese) subtitles as the way how the story should be experienced, adding another layer to audience's alienation. Unfortunately, English release came out with a dubbing and a pretty thick-accented one, along with suffering from too-literal translation.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: "Special Class A", which was supposed to represent "real" world, is very much late 90s Poland, including specific car models, public transport, fashion and even Product Placement. It became incredibly dated just few years after the premiere and unlike rest of the film, can't be taken as part of the Ambiguous Time Period general aesthetics.
