• Alas, Poor Villain: It's pretty easy to feel sorry for Shell in his final moments. Even Rainbow Dash seems to regret killing him to some extent. The same goes for Nightshade.
• Evil Is Cool: Enforcer Shell... giving the badass Rainbow Dash a tough fight every time only helps matters.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Floydien's eccentric personality and manner of speaking are played for laughs initially. Also, there's a humorous scene in Innavedr where we learn his antlers are detachable. Much later, in Yaerfaerda, we learn that he used to speak normally before being tortured by Nightshade, which also apparently caused him to lose most of his memories. And there is a disturbing flashback to Nightshade's ponies beginning to saw his antlers off.
• Heartwarming Moments: "Passing Word", in Eljunbyro. Luna brings in Scootaloo for a chat over her connection with Rainbow. Scootaloo has gotten her cutie mark in the meantime and her voice has changed so much that Rainbow doesn't recognize her at first, but they're both overjoyed to hear each other, and Rainbow tells Scootaloo that she loves her.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Look no further than the very first comment on the story's first installment◊. "A certain lack of plot" you say...
• Ho Yay: After they meet properly, Belle starts acting very towards Rainbow Dash, treating her almost the same as she does her own husband. Reading it without context, it'd be easy to see it as Belle being in a polyamorous relationship with both Pilate and Rainbow.
  Zenith: Why do you even follow this bonehead around?
  Belle: She's adorable!
• Jerkass Woobie: Madame Nightshade. And eventually, Shell.
• Moral Event Horizon: Shell killing the ponies of Kera's home town. It's what makes Rainbow Dash finally kill him.
• Promoted Fanboy: Just about every main character, besides Rainbow Dash, is drawn from regular commentor's names on the story's FIMFiction page. Examples are Pilate, Roarke, Zaid, Axan, etc.
• Scenery Porn: The "In-between" chapters, especially the first few chapters of Austraeoh, are filled with absolutely beautiful landscape descriptions as Rainbow simply flies eastward. Some might even consider them the best part of the story
• Tear Jerker: Pretty much all of the flashback scenes for the first half of Eljunbyro.
