The Taft-Hartley Act is one of the means that allows a non-union actor to join the SAG-AFTRA union, and it involves a SAG-AFTRA signatory producer hiring said actor and writing a statement explaining why they were hired over existing union actors. In other words, Romano went to bat for Brain to join the industry, and this was the thanks she got.
