YMMV / All for the Game

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: The text never clarifies what, exactly, the mental illness is that Andrew requires medication and therapy for. Word of God says it's manic depression, but the books never specify.

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Jeremy Knox appears for all of two dialogue-light scenes in the entire series, both of which are in the final book. He quickly became a fan favourite due to his sunny personality and emphasis on fair play, which stands in sharp contrast to the jaded, violent characters that make up most of the cast. It helps that he's one of the few characters Kevin genuinely admires and seems happy to be around. Demand was so high that in 2023, Nora announced a fourth book called "The Sunshine Court" focused on his life after transferring to the Trojans.
  • Fanon: It's widely accepted that Neil is demisexual. The author has stated that while this was not her intention, it's a valid interpretation, and has confirmed that Neil isn't attracted to anyone he doesn't already have a close bond with.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With The Raven Cycle. They have plenty of fans in common and many crossover fan works to boot.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
  • Andrew. He regularly threatens to hurt or kill people and means it. His nickname among the upperclassmen is 'the monster'. He also has Rape as Backstory, will do anything for the people he cares about, and has a softer side he shows Neil.
  • Kevin. He shows nothing but contempt for Neil and the other Foxes since he is a much better Exy player than them. He is also a Broken Ace who was Made a Slave to Riko Moriyama when his mother died, being raised only to be good at Exy. Riko broke his dominant hand out of spiteful jealousy, taking away the one thing he could do.
  • Similarly to Kevin, Jean shows nothing but scorn for Neil and does nothing to prevent Riko's continuous torture of him during Neil's stay at Evermore. On the other hand, his parents gave him to the Moriyamas to pay off a debt when he was a child, and he was abused in ways Kevin (as Riko's personal pet) wasn't until he could no longer conceive openly defying Riko.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Nicky's parents cross one in the second book when his father Luther engineers a meeting between Andrew and Drake, one of the men who sexually abused Andrew, which leads to Drake raping Andrew and the end of Nicky's attempts to reconcile with them.
  • One True Threesome: According to the author, Kevin was originally supposed to be part of Neil and Andrew's romance. He was paired with Thea instead, but this hasn't stopped fans from picking up on his intense dynamics with Neil and Andrew and shipping them anyway.
