  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Edward really say "I love you Ma" to Mrs Hall as the train was leaving? We only have the station lady's interpretation of his lip movement for it. May be the station lady got it wrong, or she was simply being kind to Mrs Hall and giving her something to hold on to?
  • Awesome Music: The sparkling theme tune by Alexandra Harwood not only perfectly captures the spirit of the new series, but also beautifully echoes "Piano Parchment", the beloved theme of the 1978 adaptation.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: It took all of one episode for fans to conclude that Richard Carmody was somewhere on the high-functioning autistic spectrum, due to his complete inability to read people and obsession with his textbooks. In addition, his actor James Anthony-Rose thought Carmody could be seen as on the neurodivergent spectrum and approved of people reading the character this way. Many neurodivergent fans who identify with him are thrilled to get representation in the show.
  • One True Pairing: Siegfried Farnon/Audrey Hall is easily the most popular ship in the fandom, due to their chemistry and all of the Ship Tease between them. It even overshadows the Official Couple of James/Helen.
  • Win Back the Crowd: This series had a lot to do to stand up against the memory of the beloved 1978 series. Upon its premiere, however, it was more or less universally said that while nothing could ever replace the classic series, this adaptation — anchored by the endearing and extremely talented newcomer Nicholas Ralph as James, veteran British acting stalwart Samuel West in a heartfelt and nuanced performance as Siegfried, and the always gifted Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall — was more than worth watching in its own right, particularly given the worldwide chaos it premiered among in 2020. Subsequent series got a similarly positive reception.
