- Catharsis Factor: While this series has a lot of infamy, one of the good things it gave us was finally seeing Mildred Potter in the flesh. Soon-Li finding her parents was also a positive development.
- Heartwarming Moments: Father Mulcahy getting surgery to fix his damaged hearing.
- Fanon Discontinuity: To fans of the original.
- The second season is this to fans of the first.
- So Okay, It's Average: Season 1 was stable and managed to keep the spirit of the original series fairly alive. It wasn't exactly gold and it didn't live up to the fame of its predecessor, but it gave very nice closure to some things that needed to be resolved.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The near-universal reason why people denounce this series is because it strayed way too far from its roots by its second season.
- Values Dissonance: The series is set (and was produced in) a time period when smoking was prevalent. In fact, it's mentioned that VA hospitals receive free cigarettes to help cheer patients up. Not long after the series ended, it became unthinkable to smoke in hospitals, let alone for hospital staff to distribute tobacco products to patients.
