  • During Episode One: The Daring Grace has been swarmed by giant eagles which are attacking the airship's gas balloon, threatening to bring the entire ship down. It is the turn of Hoff, the party's Light domain Cleric.
You'd Expect: Hoff to cast a Scorching Ray spell, targeting multiple eagles with a single spell to swiftly take down the threat and avoid crashing the ship.
Instead: Hoff casts a Flaming Sphere spell which proceeds to set the Daring Grace ablaze.
As A Result: Second has to cast a Web spell to try and patch over the damage to the airship's gasbag.
You'd Then Expect: Hoff would recognise the unintended consequences of his strategy and dismiss the spell, or at least be much more cautious in how he directs the Flaming Sphere to avoid any more friendly fire.
Instead: Hoff moves the Flaming Sphere in a way that sets the Web ablaze also.
As A Result: The Daring Grace crashlands, bringing episode one to a ridiculous conclusion.
  • During Episode Two: Taylor has just successfully cast a Mind Spike spell on the giant eagle mount that the wood elves are using to retreat, setting the party up to track them back to their base of operations on the island.
You'd expect: The party to congratulate Taylor on her quick thinking and rally together to track their enemies down.
Instead: Second decides to cast a Ray of Sickness at the eagle, risking killing it and undoing Taylor's good work.
As A Result: The elves retaliate against Second and he takes two arrows to the chest before the elves complete their getaway.
  • During Episode Six: The party have opened the Ward hidden with the Temple of Vidyan and gained entry to Mythfont. Inside they have found doors marked with symbols indicating different phases of the moon. A few of the doors are unlocked, many are still barred with powerful Abjuration magic.
You'd expect: The party to realise that they have only unlocked the Full Moon Ward, that they will need to find and open the other Wards to fully unlock the many doors in Mythfont.
Instead: They spend the entire episode stumbling around trying doors at random.
As A Result: Mark has to painstakingly spoonfeed the solution to this puzzle to the party. It takes multiple attempts.
  • During Episode Ten: Taylor has taken the stash of spell scrolls that she looted from Mythfont to a shady scriptorium in Grovhaire. Folco, the owner, has offered to buy the scrolls from Taylor at a price point that seems fairly low.
You'd expect: Taylor to haggle for a better deal, or shop around to get a more reliable assessment of how much the scrolls are worth, or at the very least consult with the party before making the trade.
Instead: Taylor treats the treasures of Mythfont as vendor trash.
As A Result: She receives a fraction of the value of what the scrolls were worth. She avoids a major psychic backlash only by the DM's mercy because “selling spell scrolls to a black market trader” almost certainly breaks the terms of the Geas that Zaka placed upon the party.
