What An Idiot / The Loud House

Go To

A family as big as the Louds is sure to screw up every so often — and not just Lincoln, mind you.

Main series:

  • In "No Guts, No Glori", Lori behaves like a Babysitter from Hell just to keep order in the house. Unfortunately, her tyranny causes her siblings to lose respect for her. Something she began to notice.
You'd Expect : Lori to explain why she's hard on them or just say "yes" to the not-so-destructive activities.
You'd Also Expect: Lori to explain why the siblings shouldn't do those destructive activities while acting nice. Nice, but also in a strict manner too.
Instead: Lori goes full Control Freak on them while showing very few signs of empathy towards them.
The Result: The sisters decide to rebel against her in her and Leni's bedroom and put Lincoln in charge.
You'd Then Expect: Lori to give Lincoln some tips. Even if Lincoln isn't in a listening mood, he could possibly remember her tips when things start to go out of control.
Even Better: She doesn't have to act nice to Lincoln, she could explain him the tips while still acting tough too.
Instead: She doesn't and tells Lincoln that he can't last five minutes.
As a Result: While she isn't wrong, this only encourages him to be in charge even more. Had Lincoln not chosen to go to Lori when things start to get out of hand, the Loud house could've been completely destroyed.
  • In "Along Came a Sister", Mrs. Johnson tells Lincoln to not let Frank the tarantula out of his cage. However, Lincoln does it anyway, and the spider disappears.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to call his sisters (except for Leni, of course) to get the spider.
Instead: He tries to find Frank himself in secret, and so the sisters act suspicious of him. Fortunately, they side with him once he explains the situation.
  • In "Cover Girls", Lincoln's sisters return while Lincoln is covering for them.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to head count the sisters to see if they are here.
Instead: Even after all eleven are present and accounted for, they still keep disguising themselves as each other. So they're eventually busted and, as punishment, they have to wear the disguises while doing their things.
  • In "Save the Date", Lori forces Lincoln to go on a double-date with Bobby and his sister Ronnie Anne after Lincoln insults the latter, causing Bobby to break up with her. While at the restaurant, some of Lincoln's classmates show up and make fun of him for being on a date with Ronnie Anne.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to just say that they're not on a date and leave it at that.
Instead: He denies they're dating, but also insults Ronnie Anne like he did before, causing her run off in tears and Bobby to break up with Lori again.
  • In "One Flu Over the Loud House", the family comes down with a case of the flu which makes them act like zombies, and Lincoln and the only remaining survivors try to escape the house without getting inflected.
You'd Expect: For them to wear some form of protection while trying to escape so that the germs won't get on them.
Instead: They don't and they all end up catching the flu by the end of the episode. At least Clyde's taking care of them (wearing a hazmat suit like the others should've done in the first place).
  • In "April Fools Rules", the solution to avoid Luan's April Fools' pranks is to keep her locked up until April 2nd.
You'd Expect: The Louds to guard her to make sure she wouldn't escape.
Instead: This doesn't happen, and Luan is able to pull all those pranks Lincoln has to set off!
  • In "Raw Deal", Lucy gives the siblings tarot readings during a trip to a state park. Lincoln's reading is his day will "end in tragedy", which freaks him out.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to not believe Lucy and enjoy himself, as sometimes fortune-telling is not worth being trusted.
Instead: He keeps avoiding every activity at the park, believing something bad will happen (when in reality, everything goes perfectly fine).
The Result: Lincoln's paranoia causes him to miss out on all the fun at the park, which indeed nearly ends his day in tragedy as predicted. The only reason it didn't actually end in tragedy was because a geyser just happened to go off soon afterwards.
  • "Brawl in the Family" happens to be the textbook example of this trope for anyone who isn't Clyde:
    • Lori and Leni are having a fight over identical dresses. The other sisters come up with something called a "Sister Fight Protocol" to help them get over it, but Lincoln hates it because it leads to his access to the kitchen and bathroom being cut off.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to listen to his sisters and let Lori and Leni resolve the argument on their own.note
Instead: He goes into Lori and Leni's bedroom to set them straight.
You'd Then Expect: For Lincoln to tell them to hug it out, suggest they differentiate their dresses with embroidery, suggest they cool off somewhere less inconvenient than the kitchen or the bathroom (after all, Lori can drive, so she could have left the property to cool off), or just leave the sisters alone so they can talk it out themselves.
Instead: He somehow thinks that he can solve the problem by claiming that Lori and Leni insulted one another (specifically, he claims Lori said blue made Leni look "washed out" and Leni said taffeta made Lori look like Aunt Ruth), which, no matter whether this is true or not, is just asking for more fighting.
Result: The fight, which had, unbeknownst to Lincoln, stopped, starts again and spirals out of control (something the sisters chide him out for), resulting in nine out of ten of his sisters fighting! The only way he resolved this was by leaving the house and spending the night at Clyde's, who gave him helpful advice without butting in.
Even Worse: When the fight is finally resolved, Lincoln blabs again and brings up times the sisters insulted one another, leading to another nine-girl fight!
  • "The Whole Picture":
    • Clyde gets a picture of Lincoln's first mustache hair and Lincoln is ready to add it to his "cherished memories" folder on his computer. While loading it in, he gets a warning prompt the folder is full and is asked to "make room for new file".
You'd Expect: For Lincoln to browse online or ask his family to find the meaning behind said prompt, as it may be asking him to format the file and wipe free space.
You'd Also Expect: Lincoln to create multiple new folders and split the pictures evenly amongst them.
Instead: He immediately clicks "yes" without warning.
Result: All the pictures in the folder are formatted and permanently deleted.
Worse still: Lynn Sr. never bothered to set the photos so they automatically back up to the Cloud; thus the childhood memories are gone for good.
    • When Lincoln decides to recreate his childhood memories, he asks his sisters to join them; they aren't up for it.
You'd Expect: For Lincoln to explain further to the sisters on why he wants to recreate the memories.
Instead: He doesn't, and thus Clyde is the only one out to help him.
Fortunately: When Lincoln forgets to load the camera with film before the second set of memories, Clyde tells the sisters about what happened and they feel sorry for him, and are able to remember the memories that got deleted.
  • In "No Such Luck":
    • Lynn thinks Lincoln is bad luck because she lost a sports match while he was there. Lincoln, wanting some alone time, starts going along with it and telling everybody that it's true. Lisa, being the down-to-Earth Child Prodigy she is, doesn't believe in bad luck. Then, Lincoln pretends to trip and deliberately breaks Lori's golf clubs.
You'd Expect: Lisa to tell that it was a trick. After all, his "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" did sound very fake. Even if she couldn't pick up on that and thought it was a genuine accident, you'd expect her to write it off as a coincidence, like she does with something similar in "Raw Deal".
Instead: She falls for it hook, line, and sinker and immediately declares Lincoln a "cursed wretch".
    • Later, after Lincoln's locked out, he confesses out loud that he was faking it and that he isn't bad luck.
You'd Expect: That the family would think for a minute and realize how hasty they were and that they're being inconsiderate to one of their own and let Lincoln back in.
Instead: They follow Lynn's idiotic theory that because she won two games after he was banned, Lincoln's wrong. To make matters worse, Mr. Grouse also follows it.
    • Lincoln's family disallows him to sleep in his room.
You'd Expect: Him to sleep on the couch or in the bathtub.
Or: If they say that he can't go in the house at all, for him to sleep in Lisa's bunker, or to crash with one of his friends.
Instead: He just sleeps in the yard.
  • In "Stall Monitor", it's Parent-Teacher Conference Night and Mrs. Johnson is expected to meet with Lynn Sr. and Rita about Lincoln's attendance. Lincoln does not want his parents to meet her because he has been in various mishaps at school which he has been keeping secret, and fears Mrs. Johnson will tell them about his bad reputation.
You'd Expect: Before the conferences begin, for Lincoln to politely talk to Mrs. Johnson and ask her what she is going to tell his parents.
Instead: He rallies his friends to prolong their parents' conferences so Mrs. Johnson won't have time for his; when Stella's mom had to leave early, he has Rusty take Mrs. Johnson's place.
Result: Once Lincoln is busted, Mrs. Johnson reveals what she was really going to tell Lynn Sr. and Rita: That Lincoln is a resourceful student, as well as a creative one for his plans. But Lincoln is not let off the hook for delaying his conference and is grounded for a week along with a week of detention.
  • In "Farm to Unstable", Liam is left to manage his farm by himself because his grandmother sprained her ankle and his dad and brother are out of town at an egg convention. Lincoln, Clyde, Rusty, Zach, and Stella all volunteer to help, but have a hard time due to the animals and Mee-maw mistreating them.
You'd Expect: Lincoln and his friends to explain this to Liam, so he can give them tips on how to do his chores properly.
Instead: Not wanting to let Liam down, they decide to take a shortcut by buying store-bought produce and passing them off as Liam's. When they arrive at the grocery store, they find it closed for an hour due to the floor being buffed.
You'd Then Expect: For them to wait an hour.
Instead: They go to Flip's Food and Fuel, where the produce Flip sells is Way Past the Expiration Date and he sells yarn that isn't made of real wool, and try to pass it off as Liam's produce and yarn.
As A Result: When the customers buy Flip's produce at Liam's farm stand, they get sick (or, in the case of the Farrell twins, get rashes from the yarn) and demand refunds, resulting in Liam's farm nearly going out of business.
Fortunately: Lincoln and his friends confess what they did to Liam and manage to redeem themselves by doing things the right way.
  • The plot of "Diss the Cook" is about the middle school chef holding a grudge against the Loud children because she's a former friend of Rita's after a falling out. The cause of their friendship ending was according to Chef Pat, Rita not inviting Pat to her graduation party. Rita claims she did invite her and that if anybody should be angry it should be her. Turns out they're technically both right.
You'd Expect: Teen Rita to deliver Pat's invitation in person or a place she would be able to receive it like her locker or mailbox.
Instead: Rita puts it on a book, not even a personal book belonging to Pat, but a library book.
Later: Teen Pat returns to her library table.
You'd Expect: Pat to notice the colorful envelope on the book she was reading.
Instead: She closes the book and puts it back on the shelf.
As A Result: Pat holds a grudge against Rita well into their adult years.
  • "Save Royal Woods!":
    • Undersecretary Joyce Crandall believes that creating a sixth great lake could not only boost tourism in Michigan, but also promote her to the state's "Oversecretary of Water Leisure."
You'd Expect: For Joyce to choose an unpopulated area to build a lake.
Instead: She decides to flood Royal Woods, a populated town, to make one, because it hasn't got a noteworthy tourist attraction.
As A Result: The townsfolk not only get angry, but also, Joyce's boss, getting word of her crime, fires her.
    • Lincoln rallies the entire city to convince Joyce to not demolish the city in many ways.
You'd Expect: Lincoln to ask Lisa to look into the town's history further and discover something important about it.
Instead: They try coming up with the world's largest Flippee and later a forged story about the founding of Royal Woods, both of which fail. Later on the town reveals to Joyce the many important things they love about the town, with Lisa revealing the town is abundantly rich in several minerals and is located atop a giant oil deposit, which Lana complains she could have mentioned it earlier.
  • In "Doom Service", the Louds (minus Lori) are invited to an all-inclusive resort. However, the person who invites them is Vic, someone they have bad experience with. Not to mention, Vic is also wearing a cheap palm tree costume.
You'd Expect: For the Louds to see through the Paper-Thin Disguise.
Instead: They fall for it and decide to go the resort.
The Result: When they get to the resort, they realize that Vic runs the operation, much to their dismay.
You'd Then Expect: For the Louds to immediately leave the resort since they know that Vic is not a Nice Guy.
Instead: "What's the worst that can happen?"
The Result: They nearly end up having a bad vacation.

The Loud House Movie:

  • Morag has successfully framed Lincoln for destroying Loch Loud with the dragon Lela when it was her own doing via a dragon gem that enables her to mind control Lela and causing the Louds to leave Loch Loud. When she is about to be named Duchess, she mentions how the Louds abdicated the crown to her, but Angus soon says otherwise and the people of Loch Loud take his word for it on account of his honesty.
You'd Expect: For Morag to keep up appearances and try to spin a plausible lie that Angus is just defending the Louds out of misguided loyalty and have the people on her side in case the Louds do return. Even with Lela by her side as an impenetrable force, better safe than sorry.
Instead: She drops all pretenses and shows her true colors, believing she has nothing to lose and sicks Lela on the villagers.
The Result: The Louds manage to stop her after their ghostly ancestor Lucille tells them about Morag's true colors and thus they are exonerated for her deeds.
