Go To

“The Lone Chipmunks” is a Classic Disney Short starring Chip 'n Dale.

Set in The Wild West, this cartoon has the two chipmunks encounter outlaw Pete.

Tropes:

  • Becoming Part of the Image: Chip comes out of their nest just as a wanted poster of Pete is pasted over the entrance and ends up with his head taking the place of Pete's. Dale sees this and thinks the poster is for Chip.
  • Bullet Dancing: Dale makes Pete dance by jumping on the bullets on his bandolier with spurs, causing them to fire at Pete's feet.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: The final fight between Pete and the chipmunks is intercut with shots of The Cavalry riding to the rescue. By the time they arrive, Chip and Dale have already defeated Pete.
  • The Chew Toy: Pete!
  • Cowboy Episode: Chip and Dale don’t dress like cowboys, but for all that counts, this episode takes place in the wild west; the chipmunks take on an outlaw (Pete); and they even ride a horse.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Another solo cartoon for Chip and Dale.
  • Easy Come, Easy Go: Said by Chip and Dale as they cover Pete in syrup and the money he robbed.
  • Gun Twirling: Chip tries it after he's gotten a hold of Pete's gun. The handle hits the ground and Chip ends up being the one who twirls. Pete laughs at this, until the gun fires and parts his hair.
  • Off-Model: Granted that this short’s opening reuses parts of the opening scene from “Two Gun Goofy,” that entire scene depicts Pete in his previous design—black face and skin-toned muzzle. Even Pete’s wanted poster depicts him this way. For the rest of the episode, though, Pete’s face is skin-toned like his muzzle.
  • Parody: Of The Lone Ranger.
  • Revolver Cylinder Spin: Chip spins the cylinder of Pete's revolver to intimidate him. Unfortunately, that causes the cylinder to fall off.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Pete opts to flee the scene when he nervously suspects someone is after him.
    “I’m getting out of here.”
  • Stock Footage: The opening, which shows Pete robbing a bank, is taken from "Two Gun Goofy".
  • Tar and Feathers: When they completely defeat Pete, the chipmunks pour syrup on him and cover him with all the money he robbed.
  • Title Drop: When Pete is arrested by the calvary…
Captain: Well, Corporal, it looks mighty the work of the Lone Chipmunks.
  • "Wanted!" Poster: A wanted poster for Pete is pasted over the entrance to the chipmunk's home right after Chip entered inside. He sticks his head through the poster just as Dale arrives and thinks the poster is of Chip. He decides to turn in Chip for the $10,000 reward, until Chip shows him the full poster, and Dale waves the reward money goodbye.
  • White Stallion: The chipmunks ride one at the end of this short.
