Go To

“The Legend Of Coyote Rock” is a 1945 Classic Disney short directed by Charles A. Nichols, starring Pluto.

In the American Southwest there stands a rock formation shaped like a coyote, the titular Coyote Rock. How it came to be involves Ol' Bent Tail, a crafty coyote who goes after the sheep being guarded by Pluto.

  • Black Sheep: Blackie, a literal black sheep, is implied to be the most mischievous sheep in the flock. He is first seen crawling out of the corral and wandering off, only to be stopped by Pluto.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Bent Tail razzes Pluto provoking the climatic chase.
  • Disaster Dominoes: During the climatic chase, Pluto and Bent Tail run across some tall rocky formations, causing them to smash into one another resulting in a huge collapse. This animation is reused in the later Disney short, “Grand Canyonscope.”
  • Disney Villain Death: Bent Tail falls into the canyon when the rocky formation he’s on collapses. It is unknown whether he died or survived the fall.
  • Evil Redhead: Bent Tail is a crafty coyote with a red tuft of hair on his head. He is bent on stealing Pluto’s flock and eating the sheep.
  • Lean and Mean: Bent Tail is also a skinny coyote.
  • Loud Gulp: Blackie gulps when trembling before Bent Tail.
  • Narrator: Not only tells the story of how Coyote Rock came into existence, but also provides Pluto’s monologue whenever he talks to Blackie.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Blackie is trembling when he is face to face with Bent Tail, who is about to eat him.
    • This happens to Bent Tail when he looks down the canyon as Pluto has chased him to the edge of a cliff.
  • Stock Scream: When falling down the canyon, Bent Tail screams the Goofy Holler.
  • Those Wily Coyotes: Bent Tail is a cunning that manages to outsmart Pluto, luring him away from the sheep flock.
