The Gingerbread Man (1992) is a very-short lived Stop Motion cartoon created by David Wood and co-produced by FilmFair and Central Independent Television. It is loosely based on the 1976 musical play of the same name also created by David Wood, which in turn is inspired on the 19th-century fairy tale of the same name as well.

The series follows a gingerbread man and his friends: Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Herr Von Cuckoo, and Old Tea Bag, who come to life in their kitchen home when the Big Ones (the human couple we always hear but never see) aren't looking. There's also Sleek the Mouse, a hungry mouse with a Brooklyn accent who will try to eat the titular gingerbread man.

This show provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Late Appearance: In the original stage play, The Gingerbread Man meets Sleek the Mouse on the same night he was born. Here, he doesn't meet him until a couple of nights later.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Herr Von Cuckoo, and Old Tea Bag, who are a salt shaker, a pepper shaker, a cuckoo clock bird and a tea bag respectively.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: The Gingerbread Man himself.
  • Dance Party Ending: The first episode ends with the Gingerbread Man and his friends dancing to the music on the radio.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: In one episode, a TV near the kitchen dresser plays the series' Title Theme Tune.
  • Minimalist Cast: Not counting the Big Ones, they are only six characters in the whole series.
  • Nice Guy: The Gingerbread Man is very friendly and likes to help his friends.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Mr. Salt and, to a lesser extent, the Gingerbread Man are always smiling.
  • Space Jews: Herr Von Cuckoo is a German cuckoo clock bird dressed as a yodeler.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Throughout the show, the Old Tea Bag goes from hating the Gingerbread Man and wanting to be eaten to respecting and caring for him.
