Tropes in The Gay Gaucho

  • All Just a Dream: Cubby Bear was dreaming the whole thing and stands up in bed when he gets shot to death by Pedro. He then flies back and so does his mattress against the wall.
  • Bilingual Bonus: There are lots of Spanish words and even a song entirely in the language. This short is more enjoyable if you know Spanish.
  • Big Bad: Pedro the Bandito and his gang, who try to steal Cubby’s girlfriend and later kill Cubby.
  • Downer Ending: In-Universe and Invoked. While it was just a dream, he gets shot by Pedro and his gang.
  • Everything Is an Instrument: From drinks to dogs, gulping, people’s toes, and Cubby’s girlfriend’s headpiece. Everybody makes use of the entire scenery in the music sequences.
  • Fat Bastard: Pedro The Bandito is humongous, quite large, and is a stealing, gun-crazy pervert.
  • Tango: Cubby and his girlfriend do a tango dance when he arrives to the cantina.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Pedro the Bandito, the gang leader shoots Cubby Bear to death as his girlfriend and horse fly off the cliff.
