Go To

“Jack And Old Mac” is a 1956 Classic Disney Short directed by Bill Justice.

  • Abusive Parents: There are implications that Old Mac mistreats his son. Some can assume that Old Mac forces his son to sing with the hillbillies who sing as the chorus. It is possible that Old Mac allows one of the hillbillies to hit his son just to make him sing along. The little boy tags along with his mother as she walks by with a rolling pin. He watches her hit his father with that rolling pin. Then he adopts a smile as if satisfied with his father’s karma.
  • Cats Are Mean: In the “The House That Jack Built” segment, a cats kills a rat with a gun.
  • Cool Horse: One of Old Mac’s band members is a horse playing the drums.
  • Death Glare: In most of her screenshots, Old Mac’s wife glares back at her husband while chopping wood. She then retains this glare as she walks toward Old Mac with the rolling pin.
  • Dogs Are Dumb: The dog playing the base in Old Mac’s band has his tongue sticking out which makes him look silly as a nod to the stereotype that dogs are dumb. He even plays the base in a silly manner.
  • The Dog Bites Back:
    • After being clunked on the head a few times, the little boy kicks the hillbilly in the shin.
    • When finally fed up with having to do all the homework, Old Mac’s wife hits Old Mac with a rolling pin.
  • Dope Slap: The little boy is not a dope, but he is repeatedly clunked on the head by one of the hillbillies who force him to sing with them.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Old Mac is hit on the head with a rolling pin by his wife, who has been doing all the housework.
  • Lazy Bum: Old Mac spends most of his time playing with his band leaving his wife to do all the housework, such as chopping wood. At one point, Old Mac has a couple of chickens play the piano for just to take a break.
  • Rolling Pin of Doom: The short ends with Old Mac getting hit over the head with a rolling pin by his wife. It’s just what he has coming for leaving the housework to her.
  • Running Gag: One of the hillbillies clunks the little boy on his head to make him sing “E-I-E-I-O” at the end of every verse. The third time it happens, the boy kicks the hillbilly in the shin.
