Go To

"Fastest with the Mostest" is a 1960 Looney Tunes cartoon featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.

The cartoon opens with Wile E Coyote trying to light a fuse only for it to blow instantly, showing the title of the cartoon. After a few dates with gravity, his schemes in this cartoon include trying to drop a bomb on the Roadrunner and trying to lower himself to the bird in a bucket, neither of which are successful. His final attempt involves tricking the Roadrunner into taking a "detour"—the bird runs to an outcropping and finds himself face to face with his opponent. Just as the Coyote is about to eat, the outcropping breaks under his weight, and he goes on a misadventure down a waterfall and through a maze of pipes—and the bird is still floating in thin air in that same spot.

Tropes

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Repeating the final gag from "High Diving Hare", the Road Runner is able to violate the law of gravity because "I never studied law."
  • Binomium ridiculus:
    • Road Runner — (Velocitus Incalcublii)
    • Coyote — (Carnivorous Slobbius)
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Wile E. has the Road Runner cornered on an outcropping, but as he steps forward, the ledge gives way under his feet and he plummets... while the Road Runner and the piece of rock he's standing on remain floating in mid air!
  • Inevitable Waterfall: After falling off the ledge, Wile E. lands on a river and is swept down a waterfall and into an aqueduct, going down a series of pipes until finally coming out a faucet.
  • Inflating Body Gag: Wile E. Coyote tries to blow into a balloon for his latest plan, only for the air to shoot back and inflate him. He desperately grabs the nearest object—a bomb—to stop himself from drifting away, but just winds up carrying the bomb as he floats up. Then he deflates and finds himself high in the air, still holding a bomb. Whoops.
  • Overly Long Gag: All three gags of the cartoon can be considered this, since they each last over a minute.
  • Pipe Maze: Wile E. ends up going into an aqueduct and through a series of ever narrower pipes, eventually coming out a small faucet right next to where he fell.
  • Talking with Signs: How the final punchline is delivered.
Wile E.'s sign: I wouldn't mind-except that he defies the law of gravity!
Road Runner's sign: Sure-but I never studied law!
