Donald's Tire Trouble is a 1943 animated short film from Disney starring Donald Duck.

As Donald goes for a drive in the country, one of his tires goes flat, leading to all sorts of complications as he tries to fix it.

Tropes:

  • Drives Like Crazy: The cartoon opens on Donald speeding through a mountain road, his car visible only as a blur with a huge dust cloud trailing behind.
  • Enmity with an Object: The short is focused on Donald's struggles when fixing a popped inner tube.
  • Freak Out: Donald has one when all of the tires go flat.
  • Here We Go Again!: Just as Donald finally fixes his flat tire, it pops again. And then a second tire blows out. And then a third. And then the fourth. Finally, Donald just snaps and decides to drive off with four flats rather than go through all that trouble again.
  • Irony: The initial cause of the flat is a nail in a horseshoe, which collars Donald's neck, much to his disgust.
    Donald: Good luck, BAH!
  • MacGyvering: Donald has had to patch up his inner tubes with whatever scrap of rubber he could get his hands on, including gloves, hot water bottles and a toilet plunger.
    Donald: Doggone rubber shortage!
  • Mickey Mousing: When the rubber deflates, the music imitates a bagpipe playing "The Campbells are Coming". This also plays at the ending when Donald drives away with four flats.
  • Pop the Tires: The plot involves a tire going flat and Donald trying to fix it. And then all four tires go flat in the end.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Donald's tires all go flat, he decides to just drive off on the flats instead of going through the trouble of fixing them again.
  • Wartime Cartoon: While its connection to World War 2 is superficial, this cartoon does show a commentary on scarcity of essentials for people on the home front — in this case, rubber. This is reinforced by the movie poster and the title card, both of which are adorned with various newspaper clippings of articles on rubber shortages. In addition, in the cartoon itself, as Donald stares at his well-worn inner tube, he gripes, "Doggone rubber shortage!"
  • Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: As Donald goes crazy from the flat tires, his eyes widen and pupils shrink before leading to...
  • Wingding Eyes: ...his pupils spinning wildly into spirals.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Towards the end, Donald finally succeeds in getting the flat tire fixed — and then not only does that tire go flat again, but all the tires do so.
    Donald: Retreads! RETREADS!!
