"Barbecue Brawl" is a 1956 Tom and Jerry cartoon directed by Hanna-Barbera.

Spike and his son, Tyke, decide to have a barbecue together, but Tom and Jerry's chase threatens to ruin it.

"Barbecue Brawl" includes examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Although Tom and Jerry do appear throughout the cartoon, the main plot is about Spike and Tyke trying to have a barbecue together.
  • Pepper Sneeze: As Spike is putting some pepper on his steak, Jerry, who happens to be hiding inside the pepper pot, ends up sneezing, nearly giving him away to the dogs.
  • Rule of Three: Tom ends up falling into the swimming pool three times throughout the cartoon.
  • Strong Ants: At the end of the cartoon, a swarm of ants shows up to steal Spike and Tyke's barbecue food.
  • Suddenly Shouting: "Do me, uh... a little favor, would ya, pal?" (Beat) "GET OUTTA MY SALAD!"
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Tom and Jerry both disappear from the short before the last scene.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Once Spike and Tyke have finally managed to get their barbecue set up, a swarm of ants shows up and takes all the food away. Even when Spike manages to get the steak back from them, the lead ant just orders some of the other ants to grab it back from him.
