Our Thanksgiving Day

A Winnie the Pooh Thanksgiving is a 1998 Thanksgiving Episode in the Winnie the Pooh franchise.

Pooh and his friends all gather together to celebrate Thanksgiving at Rabbit's house, but when Rabbit disproves of their ideas, he comes up with a rather "organized" way to make the Thanksgiving dinner perfect. The animals all set off to find the special items that Rabbit wants.

The special was also included in its entirety as a segment to pad out Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving in 1999.

Tropes in this work include:

  • An Aesop: Thanksgiving is meant to be a holiday for spending time together with loved ones, and isn't about what you eat or have as decorations.
  • Ate the Spoon: Gopher is saddled with pumpkin pie-making duty and actually produces a nice-looking pastry, although his methods ("processing" a pile of pumpkins to kingdom come with his signature explosives and mixing the batter with a blowtorch) and ingredients (jalapenos and turmeric) are somewhat... questionable.
Gopher: Yessiree, that's what I like! A dessert with attitude!
  • The Cameo: Kanga and Roo are absent in this film, though toy versions of them still appear in the live action introduction.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Rabbit, a herbivore, is eager to have turkey as part of their traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Granted, he seems to be enthralled by the idea of a proper Thanksgiving feast as opposed to actually eating it.
  • Crowd Song: The closing song "Our Thanksgiving Day", which is quoted at the top of the article.
  • Disaster Dominoes: When the accidentally-captured Eeyore and Tigger are released from the sack on top of the table, they accidentally set in sequence of destroying the decorations and food that Owl, Gopher, and Rabbit had been preparing.
  • Food End: The special ends with everyone eating the original food they had brought.
  • Ironic Echo: When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he's thankful for at the start of the special, Pooh replies "Nothing short of everything". Rabbit uses the exact same words later when asked what was wrong with the nontraditional Thanksgiving dinner the others had prepared.
  • Pie in the Face: Rabbit has to catch the pumpkin pie which was accidentally launched in the air by Eeyore and Tigger. He manages to catch it, but Tigger slaps him on the back with pride causing Rabbit to lose his balance on the tipped over table he was standing on and land face first in the pumpkin pie.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: The only Winnie the Pooh work to date that is set around Thanksgiving.
