- "I read classics, so you don't have to."-Website Tagline
Established in 2018, Saxo Dramaticus (previously called Kivutar's Klassics) features MST-style retellings of great world literature. Often, the plots are functionally identical to the original works, the biggest difference being the inherent insanity of the characters/situations they're in is highlighted. Also notable is the site's choice of material, focusing on some classic literature which may be less well-known to the average reader.
Works by this website include:
- Farce of the Three Kingdoms (a humorous retelling of Romance of the Three Kingdoms; complete)
- Kalevala, Land of “Heroes” (a humorous retelling of The Kalevala; complete)
- Gigglemesh (a humorous retelling of The Epic of Gilgamesh; complete)
- Njal Gets Burned (a humorous retelling of The Saga of Burned Njal; complete)
- Shah Names (a humorous retelling of The Shahnameh; in progress as of 2024)
There are also a couple of shorter works, including two chapters of a retelling of the Mahabaharta by a guest contributor and a retelling of a portion of the Bible.
Tropes present throughout Saxo Dramaticus:
- Early-Bird Cameo: Soon before publishing of Gigglemesh began, the background changed to some early Mesopotamian Bas-relief to prefigure it. Background updates have continued to herald new works since.
- World of Snark: Often present within the retold works.
