NASApone
is an imageboard-based Interactive Comic that is inspired by My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. It is currently still ongoing, having begun on January 1, 2018, though there were some lengthy hiatuses during 2019.
The threads' commentators take the role of Anon, a faceless green-skinned human (matching the common personification of 4chan 's anonymous userbase, which is where the threads were developed) who is good friends with the titular NASApone, a pony whose special talent is making things fly. The story begins with NASApone's unveiling her newest creation, which she hopes will be capable of flight between the stars. But will the two of you actually make it to space? And if so, what awaits you there?
NASApone provuides examples of:
- Animation Bump: The story is told mostly through static images, with some gifs every once in a while. However, there are several fully animated sequences on the authors Youtube from successfully launching the second manned rocket to Anon's flashback to before the crash and after the crash and even a holiday special premiering Boeingpone in the foreground.
- Anthropomorphic Personification: Anon is the personification of 4chan and its user base from the /mlp/ board, whose contributing comments move the story along.
- Cassandra Truth: While in Celestia's care, Anon stumbles across a letter stating that Princess Luna was "contained in their quarters" for trying to better understand the heavens and "sacred" celestial bodies, as such views could lead to societal breakdown. This may have been retconned as Luna is seen both prior and after the discovery of that letter, and the story had an abrupt interruption when mentioned by one of the posters..
- Everyone Can See It: NASApone's attraction to Anon is incredibly obvious, from her flustered reactions to her notebook doodles. SpaceXpone teases them by telling them to kiss.
- Mood Whiplash: The first crewed flight attempt goes from optimistically sitting in the cockpit with NASApone, before cutting to SpaceXpone being concerned about everypony's well-being (partly because she doesn't want her funding cut). To add emphasis to the somber mood there is a Dragon rocket exploding while attempting to land, referencing the multiple disastrous tests done to date by SpaceX. The second crewed attempt is similar, cutting from reaching low-orbit in a shuttle to Crashing on the moon with alarms blaring before blacking out and waking up in Ponyville hospital with no NASApone to be found..
- Noodle Incident: While the story does not illustrate the initial launch, the following chapter depicts SpaceXpone remarking about how NASApone and Anon were "running around having the time of your lives" before an unseen falling out.
- Nosebleed: Prior to the launch it is learned that NASApone suffers from over emotional responses and a cardiovascular condition by reading notes from a medical exam, with NASApone suffering from a heart attack prior to said exam.. When Anon goes to check up on NASApone and subsequently hugs her, this triggers an emotional episode where NASApone faints and begins to bleed from the nose, thus setting the stage for the next scene.
- Schizo Tech: NASApone's rockets are built and designed by herself with loose resemblances to the NASA Titan II system mated to a Gemini space craft.
- Token Human: Anon, the green-skinned Player Character, is the sole human in a setting consisting of ponies. Possibly two settings, as Celestia states they "have never seen a kind like [Anon] here before".
