Deep Under Buckskin
is a comic detailing the story of a Pathfinder campaign written and run by Kiana. It takes place in the small town of Buckskin, where a dungeon was discovered just outside the town about a year before. Fueled by academic curiosity, Petrilly Greenglade, a halfling, decides to hire a party to explore the depths of the dungeon and learn its purpose. She teams up with Ramiel and Ilyena, a tiefling and harpy with their own separate reasons for investigating the dungeon. They are joined by Oliver Ilan, a dungeon guide with a cheerful disposition.
On the surface, the story seems innocent and common enough. But just like Buckskin, something lurks in the depths...
Petrilly is played by Xan, Ramiel by Morgan, and Ilyena by Nicolas. The art, DMing, and story are all done by Kiana. The comic updates on Sundays, with notifications on its Twitter.
This comic contains examples of:
- Action Girl: Ilyena. When Petrilly asks what she does, she draws her bow and shoots into the brush, spearing a rat.
- An Arm and a Leg: Petrilly tried adventuring into the dungeon once before, and lost her leg in the attempt.
- Blob Monster: Slimes, one of the first monsters the party encounters.
- Cast of Snowflakes: Kiana has done a magnificent job ensuring every one of the main cast looks unique.
- Cute Little Fangs: Ilyena displays them in her introduction, though they're less cute and more intimidated.
- Demihuman: Everyone in the main party; the only person that's actually human is Oliver.
- Dungeon Shop: The market on the half level has merchants selling either what they've looted from dead bodies or supplies for the dungeon dive ahead.
- Fangirl: Petrilly for the dungeon; she recognizes one of the dungeon's discoverers on sight and asks for an interview.
- Gender-Equal Ensemble: Two women (Ilyena and Petrilly) and two men (Ramiel and Oliver).
- Glowing Eyes: Ilyena and Errauk's eyes glow in the dark. It's... quite spooky.
- Horned Humanoid: Ramiel has curved horns that are common among tieflings.
- Loads and Loads of Races: Well, yeah. It's based off a Pathfinder campaign, what did you expect?
- Loyal Animal Companion: Errauk, Ilyena's familiar. She can communicate with him.
- Tempting Fate: Ilyena curiously prods a mushroom, and Oliver warns her that monsters like to hide in them. Guess what comes out two panels later?
- Token Wizard: Petrilly, who has yet to actually show what she's capable of.
- Winged Humanoid: Ilyena, being a harpy.
