By the Tail is a now-defunct NSFW Furry Webcomic by the late James M. Hardiman and Desiree Lee.note

The comic is set in the town of Brae Falls, in the fictional state of Poinsettia. It follows the lives of the town's various residents. There's Ochre Pendragon, a dragon who's always trying to get laid with the women of the town (he mainly hopes to do it with Violet, but is willing to have any girl he can), Boomer and Belle, a bruin couple, and Echo, a bat girl who works in the post office.

Of course, the main focus of the comic seems to be the girl's of Melody's, a brothel run by the titular girl, Melody Rosa, a raccoon. Other girls in the brothel include the incredibly promiscuous (and none too bright) rabbit Ivory Monroe, the smart and kind skunk Ebony Cole, the southern vixen sisters Trixie and Dixie Grant, and the badger girl, Chloe.

The comic ran from 2002, but was taken down. Images taken from it can be found here.

By the Tail provides examples of:

  • Barefoot Cartoon Animal: The characters wear clothes, but not shoes.
  • Berserk Button: This comic shows that one of the Mingh sisters doesn't do discounts, and will give a beat down to any who ask for one.
  • Furry Reminder: In this comic, a tiger girl comes on to Viper, making it known she wants to have sex with him right in the club. He asks is she wants a more private place, to which she responds with "Let 'em watch." with her hand on his stomach. The next panel shows Viper asleep, and the girl angry and confused about it.
Tiger Girl: Hey! What gives?!? You're supposed to fall asleep AFTER we've had sex!
Fox Girl: You don't know much about gators, do ya?
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: In this comic, Dixie is making chili for Viper and his staff to have that night. Trixie, who came in to check on her, takes a slurp of the chili, and a huge flame bursts from her mouth. She declares the chili to be too hot, to which Dixie responds like this.
Dixie: Oh, nonsense. The stove ain't even been turned on yet.
  • Halloween Episode: The comic had two throughout its whole run.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: Ivory uses the word "like" a lot.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Echo has one, being a bat and all.
  • Playboy Bunny: Echo dresses up as one in this comic.
  • Speech Bubble: Present, it being a comic and all. While most of the cast have regular speech bubbles, Echo tends to talk with black dripping letters, and Sugar and Spice speak with rather oriental-looking lettering.
  • Valley Girl: Ivory speaks in this way. She uses the word "like" a lot, and isn't too bright.
  • White Bunny: Ivory is a white rabbit.
