"What if Ash Won The Indigo League" is an Alternate Universe Fic of Pokémon: The Series where Ash Ketchum becomes a better trainer so that he'll be able to win the Indigo League. The series is created by RONIN CHARIZARD. Link is here

This page contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Pidgeotto evolves into Pidgeot way earlier due to the training Ash puts it through.
    • Krabby evolves into Kingler in Pokémon: The First Movie rather than in the Indigo League.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Downplayed. Charmeleon and later Charizard refuses to obey Ash still but its reasons is far different. Rather than not see Ash as a worthy master, it feels abandoned after Ash focuses on Primeape.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Ash and Brock have a deeper student-mentor relationship than in canon.
    • There wasn't a relationship of any kind between Charmander and Primeape (beyond their initial battle) but here, there is a very tense one where Primeape has to intervene whenever the Fire-Type Starter gets reckless and Charmeleon and then later Charizard, hates Primeape for "replacing" him. Thankfully, the two start to work together following the Orange Islands.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: Coinciding with Ash's journey, Gary is having his own journey, while travelling alongside Ethan and Marina.
  • Bash Brothers:
    • Haunter and Butterfree when they battle Luana's Alakazam and Marowak.
    • Bulbasaur and Rhydon develop a brotherly bond.
  • Berserk Button: While Gary is easily able to brush off Vincent's taunts, it's only when the latter mocks his grandfather as second-rate that he decides to knock the Trainer down a peg.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Butterfree saves Ash from the pink Rhyhorn.
  • Break the Haughty: The Curbstomp Battle he suffered at Giovanni's hands forces Ash to let go of his Champion title and focus on his training again.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After passing the Indigo League and defeating the Elite Four, Ash finally becomes the Pokemon Champion.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Charmeleon/Charizard hates Primeape for taking Ash's attention away from him, making him feel alone just like when Damian abandoned him.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Ash feels down after losing the Orange League. Thankfully, Drake arrives to reignite his determination.
    • Charizard's pride is shattered after losing to Mewtwo's Clone Charizard. This makes him desperate to take on any strong opponent to regain it only to meet further failure.
    • Averted. After losing to Gary, it would seems that Ash is about to go through this until Misty discovers later that he has been training his Pokemon to prepare themselves for the upcoming Indigo League.
  • Honor Before Reason: Ash refuses to claim the Boulder Badge and Cascade Badge, feeling that he hasn't truly deserve them until he has a fair match with Brock and Misty. He finally earns them properly.
  • I Choose to Stay: The Clone Charizard stays behind to look after Mount Quena lake while the Clone Gyarados chooses to stay with Misty.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The reason this reality deviates from the main timeline is due to Samurai's "The Reason You Suck" Speech inspiring Ash to be a better trainer.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Aerodactyl doesn't know the current dynamic between humans and Pokemon after spending its whole life underground.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Ash decides to pick his team on his own for his upcoming battle with Lance.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass:Ash is letting his title of Pokemon Champion go over his head. He didn't wastes any time in rubbing his victory in Gary's face and refuses to listen to Professor Oak how his cockiness nearly costs him to lose to Gary.
  • Wham Line: After Ash finally suceeds in winning the Indigo League, Mr. Goodshow approaches Ash and tells him that if he wants to become Pokemon Champion, he'll have to beat the Elite Four.
