What If Ash Woke Up On Time is a What If? You Tube series by Enter The Unknown that reimagine the events of Pokémon: The Series. It is not to be confused by the YouTube series of the same name by Dex Comics, which explore the same concept.
10 year old Ash Ketchum dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Master, but on the morning day of his Journey, he overslept, missing out on all three standard Kantonian starter Pokémon. Fortunately there was one more, Pikachu. And the rest is history. Except in this universe, Ash did wake up on time and got his first choice Squirtle, leading to a different yet also similar Journey.
Tropes
- Adaptational Badass:
- Played with for Ash. He does have a stronger start, therefore going further in early Pokémon Leagues like the Indigo League and the Silver Conference, however that’s more because of luck much like in the series. His luck just carries him further. However, he Took a Level in Badass much quicker and becomes the Hoenn League Champion. And he’s later on much more of a match for the likes of Paul and Trip in his journeys through Sinnoh and Unova respectively. Unfortunately this causes stagnation and he’s beaten by both in the Leagues where he had won in the series. This eventually does drive him to work harder in Kalos however earning him his second League Championship in Kalos. This makes him a two time League Champion by the time he goes to Alola.
- The Blastoise that was Gary’s first Pokémon goes much further under Ash, becoming his Ace. He has Mega Evolution and defeats Alain’s Mega Charizard X.
- Gary earns himself the Indigo League championship.
- Adapted Out: Pikachu due to never meeting Ash is not in this series.
- Demoted to Extra:
- Misty is a trainer here and more of a recurring character rather than a travel companion.
- Jessie, James, and Meowth are less frequent antagonists.
- In Spite of a Nail: A number of events still play out despite major changes that ripple from Ash waking up on time.
- In terms of Pokémon, Ash still befriends Bulbasaur, Charizard, Primeape, and Pidgeotto.
