Twitch Plays Pokémon (TPP) is a social experiment in which commands representing buttons on an original Game Boy (up, down, left, right, A, B, start, and select) are entered into a chat on Twitch, and then translated into a romhack of Pokémon Red via an IRC bot. In short, over 10,000 people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, Twitch Plays Pokémon has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a religion.
Twitch Plays Pokémon Brown, the second run of "Season 3", takes the mob to the region of Rijon, to the south of Johto. Brown is an extremely popular romhack of the Generation 1 games, and features an original plotline, new characters, locations and typesets, as well as a number of Pokémon brought in from later generations.

- The entire run in relation to other main series runs, to an extent.
- If you consider Paul the same Paul from the Pokemon anime, then this is the first time the chat has taken control of an anime character.
- Call-Forward: The first thing Paul immediately sees when leaving his house was a small ledge. Later on, he and the mob have to traverse a ledge maze.◊ note
- Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Despite being a Gen I hack, it uses a type-sheet present in Generation VI. Alongside the official types, five new types have been added, with some Pokemon being reclassified into one of those.
- David Versus Goliath: Beedrill, who was level 38, ended up taking out the fire-type member of the elite four's Rapidash, which was level 52.
- Everyone Lives: No releases this time!
- The Gambling Addict: The mob ends up spending hours in the casino. This time its due to needing Rare Candies to level up Beedrill.
- Game Mod: Pokemon Brown is one to Pokemon Red and Blue. The game was edited again for the use of the stream.
- Laser-Guided Karma: One interpretation is that Paul is the Paul from the Pokemon anime, who became a host as punishment for his terrible actions in the anime.
- Mundane Made Awesome: The protagonist, Paul, is widely speculated to be... a pizza delivery boy.
- Punctuation Shaker: Per the norm of a run for the Pokemon caught. Paul's name was selected from a default list.
- Sequel Hook: Upon finishing the Ultimate Dungeon, Paul meets up with the mysterious bird from Crystal Anniversary before leaving, and a screen appears saying the character will show up again in Pokemon Prism (the next run).
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: While grinding, Paul comes by two "Seels" drifting through the screen. The mob is clearly frightened by the sight, but the NPC next to the Seels gives out no reaction.
