Shrooms
is an animated/live-action video series created by Theditor and Shadow Raptor productions. The series follows the antics of three mushrooms and their interactions with their world. Each Shroom is animated differently (Red is created by juxtaposing footage of eyes and a mouth onto the Mushroom, Green is animated by Flash, and Blue...has no facial animations). The series is rife with references to Nintendo franchises, as well as many other things.
Not to be confused with the 2007 Irish horror film of the same name.
This show provides examples of:
- Author Appeal: The creators are huge fans of Mario, Pokémon, and The Legend of Zelda; and it shows.
- Author Avatar: Subverted, while the personalities of Blue and Red are based on Theditor and Shadow Raptor respectively, Shadow Raptor voices Blue and Theditor voices Red.
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Red. Between his musical obsessions, strange urges to fight other characters, and strange, airy speaking method; he's a few spores short of a full fungus.
- Shout-Out: Very numerous references to Nintendo franchises. Also, Supernatural Happenings is an episode-length shout out to Paranormal Activity.
- Tempting Fate: In Supernatural Happenings, Red boldly insults an entire house full of ghosts, thinking they'll leave if he stands up to them. The camera HUD even changes to say "TEMPTING FATE" as he challenges them.
- Too Dumb to Live: Red believes the right way to drive ghosts from a haunted house is to insult their originality.
