Web Video / Gill and Gilbert

Go To

Gill and Gilbert is a Web Video show on Polygon, from employees Patrick Gill and Brian David Gilbert. The series entails them livestreaming themselves playing various video games, with a "catch". They also include user-suggested "segments", as well as other recurring parts of the show.

Gill and Gilbert contains examples of:

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Brian is six years Pat's junior, and Pat regularly mentions how old he feels in comparison.
  • Bewildering Punishment: From eating copious amounts of fruit to drinking soy sauce, the lads have done it all.
  • Catchphrase: Brian often refers to the show as a "nightmare public access show"
    • Additionally, referring to tea as "definitely not piss"
  • Guest Host: Pat and Brian have both missed exactly one episode each. Their roles were filled by fellow Polygon employees Simone de Rochefort and Allegra Frank, respectively.
  • Guyliner: In episode 14, the boys tranform into magicians with the help of dollar store eyeliner.
  • I Have This Friend: Pat and Brian both regularly mention people from their past in order to tell out-of-the-box stories.
  • I Think You Broke Him: When Pat consumes a Nutter Butter in episode 9, Brian says "I'm happy you nutted" and Pat completely shuts down.
  • Hidden Depths: Brian has surprising talents, such as melodica beatboxing.
  • Last-Name Basis: See title.
  • Musical Episode: Though Brian regularly sings during GnG streams, episode 3 (The Legend of Zelda) was a music-centric episode in which the boys had to sing each time they died in game.
  • Our Goblins Are Different: Pat and Brian's goblin alter-egos are seen at picnics and in jail.
  • Painful Adhesive Removal: In episode 10, "Super Meat Boy and Self Care" the boys find that peeling off adhesive pore strips can be somewhat unpleasant. The irony that what was supposed to be a self-care stream turned into yet another episode of making themselves uncomfortable note  was not lost.
  • Playing Games at Work: They work at gaming website, Polygon, and the entire web series is somewhat looseley video game-centric.
  • Recurring Element: In the form of "Gilling in the name of", "This is a segment called:" (and followed by "Segment complete"), "Frank Advice", and "Tweet of the week".
    • A few user-suggested segments have came up more than once, such as: goblin characters, Piss Constable, and their fourteen sons.
  • Shout-Out: Pat and Brian often chastise real-life brands for not sponsoring them.
  • Tag Team: The boys take turns playing video games (very rarely do they play at the same time)
  • Verbal Backspace: It happens a lot from both of them.
