Apartment 404 (Original title: Апартамент 404) is a Bulgarian comedy web series.

Anton and Stoyan are roommates who are studying in Sofia. Their idyllic student life will get turned upside-down when Stoyan's older cousin Velko moves in...

Tropes featured in this series:

  • Big Fun: Velko, who's obese, lazy and Innocently Insensitive, but beneath it all he means well.
  • Country Cousin: Velko is loud, brash, messy and obnoxious. He does "bumpkin" things which aren't acceptable in the city, like playing the bagpipe in his apartment or hanging sausages to dry on the balcony.
  • Dumbass Teenage Brother: Methodi, Lily's little brother. He's constantly trying to show how "cool" he is with things like beatboxing, fights and sells fake sick notes at school, tries to hit on any girl he sees and isn't very bright.
  • Fat Slob: Velko. Aside from the obvious, he always walks around in something like a wife-beater and shorts and never, ever picks up after himself. One episode kicks off with him leaving half-finished plates of food everywhere, even in the bathroom, and causing a roach infestation.
  • Girl Next Door: Lily, an art student neighbor Anton falls for. She's this trope especially in contrast to the high-maintenance and vain Vanessa, Stoyan's girlfriend.
  • Granola Girl: Lily is a vegetarian and constantly goes on about "vibrations" and "energies".
  • Hell Is That Noise: Velko spends a whole day terrorizing the neighborhood by playing the bagpipe. It's enough to force Anton and Stoyan to actually show up at uni.
  • Hillbilly Moonshiner: Velko feels he wouldn't be a Bulgaian if he didn't at some point brew rakia (now illegal).
  • Honest John's Dealership: A guy called Zhivko (who also insists on being called Yavor but Lily knows him as Chavdar) is a wannabe Friend in the Black Market and always tries to sell the group stuff (like some Chinese skincare product that causes a huge zit on Vanessa's nose. Although he provides the titular apartment, it turns out he didn't have the right to rent it out.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: The second season introduces Stoyan's new girlfriend Vanessa, who is shallow and vain and serves as a foil to the more down-to-earth Lily.
  • It Is Dehumanising: Played for laughs when Velko conducts an investigation about who stole and ate one of his homemade sausages:
Velko: ... And while I was at the toilet, he (points at Stoyan), she (points at Lily) or it (points at Methodi) snuck in and stole one sudjuk!
  • Nervous Wreck: Stoyan devolves into one every time things go south, drawing apocalyptic scenarios in his head.
  • The Peeping Tom: In one episode, Stoyan has found out that he can peep on some girls living in the building across. Anton and Velko quickly learn of this and they all spend their whole budget on an expensive pair of binoculars.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm A Senior!: Mrs. Paskaleva, the landlady, is a senior and very obnoxious lady who constantly turns her nose up at things and bullies everyone into submission, but she eventually shows a softer side.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: A comedic version. Velko creates all manners of mess and noise in the apartment, which causes the ire of the neighbors. But when the elderly landlady comes to demand an explanation, he is the one acting like a Reasonable Authority Figure while pinning all the blame on the boys.
