Seldnac'Rae are an Open Species Art RPG, originally created by the user FelonDog on DeviantArt. The name doubles as the name for the species, Seldnac for short, Civilized Animals that live in the world of Arbalednac. Seldnacs are split in two subspecies, feline-looking Grimalkin and canine-looking Vargkin; hybrids of the two species exist, but they're rare and usually sterile. Every Seldnac has at least one type of magic they can use, and while their anatomy mostly follows those of the corresponding animals, they have flames on their ears and colorful glowing markings matching their flame color.

Being an open species, everyone is free to create their own Seldnac(s) and use them for stories, comics, art, or roleplaying, as long as they fit the established rules of the species and world. When a Seldnac is drawn or written about enough, they can level up, earning them new magics.

Seldnac'Rae feature examples of:

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: While most Seldnacs' base color is similar to their species' usual coats, they all have colorful, glowing markings in the same color as their flames somewhere on their body.
  • Amazing Technicolor World: Arbalednac, the Seldnacs' home world, has a lot of colorful glowing vegetation, allowing the Seldnacs to blend in perfectly.
  • Audience Participation: As an open species, everyone can create a Seldnac, creating their own stories within the world of Arbalednac.
  • Cat/Dog Dichotomy: The two Seldnac'Rae subspecies are the catlike Grimalkin and the doglike Vargkin. The two subspecies can interbreed, creating hybrids with traits from both parents, but that's rare and hybrids are sterile.
  • Civilized Animal: Seldnacs have the anatomy of normal felines and canines, but they also have human-level intelligence, build houses, and can work metal.
  • Cold Flames: The flames on top of a Seldnac's ears are cool to the touch and unable to burn anything.
  • Elemental Powers: There are a total of 47 different magics for a Seldnac to learn, from the classic earth, fire, water, wind quartet to slightly less common ones like poison, all the way to magics like Ethereal Walking or Possession.
  • Magic Fire: The colorful fire on Seldnacs' ears glows, but doesn't produce any heat. Additionally, Seldnacs with fire magic may have fire appear on more areas of their bodies even when they're not using their magic.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: While most Seldnacs are based on a single animal species with just the Seldnac traits added, others may be a mix of several feline or canine animals, and hybrids may have a variety of either feline or canine traits. In addition, a Seldnac's magic may change their appearance, so a Seldnac with Flying magic may have wings, and a Seldnac with Water magic may have a fish tail.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Seldnac'Rae read backwards is Ear Candles, referencing the flames on their ears. Their world, Arbalednac, read backwards is Candelabra, as that's where the "candles" live.
  • Technicolor Fire: The flames on top of a Seldnac's ears can come in any color of the rainbow. Once a Seldnac reached level 100, the flame color can even change or have a rainbow effect filtering through.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Some Seldnac'Rae have portal magic; depending on the specifics, the portals may only get them somewhere else in the same world, or may allow them to cross into different worlds.
