The History of Europe is a comedic Youtube series started by user MervueMeringue in July 2010 covering the "history" of Europe, northern Africa and the middle east from the dawn of civilisation to the End of the World as We Know It via nuclear holocaust 20 Minutes into the Future.

The series is set on a map of Europe, northern Africa and the middle east, the series uses Nations as People by treating countries on the map as characters and presents dialogue by painting the talking country grey while displaying text in the Atlantic ocean, a format which was copied over to many similar video series.

The series concluded after the tenth episode which came out in June 2012 and can be watched in its entirety here(total runtime 77 minutes).

The history of Europe contains examples of:

• Big Bad: Any time nations become considerably more powerful than everyone else they get treated as this; most examples are Noble Demon at worst.
  • The first example is Persia, who goes on a backstabbing spree against his former allies and takes over the whole middle east, he is conquered by greece.
  • The second episode has Rome, who actually manages to win, until the Huns came, at least.
  • France unsurprisingly takes this role in the Napoleon episode.
  • Germany in the WW1 and WW2 episodes, although he is a lot more villainous in ww2
  • The soviet union becomes this in the aftermath of ww2 and gets very close to world domination before he collapses due to internal discontent
  • The final instalment sees former Big Good Britain share this role with Spain in a Big Bad Duumvirate, until the latter terminates the alliance by nuking Britain into oblivion, becoming the sole Big Bad, eventually causing the apocalypse.
• Blatant Lies: The Ottoman Empire is a bully and a tyrant, and Egypt most certainly took no part in any of the atrocities committed by him.
• Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Virtually everyone, but the grand prize goes to Persia for responding to a help request from Thrace by invading him.
• Enemy Mine: The reason for most of the alliances is either this or With Us or Against Us.
• "Everybody Dies" Ending: The series ends when all the remaining nations unite to defeat Spain and its puppet states, everyone by this point has nuclear weapons, causing The End of the World as We Know It
• Evil Laugh: Often done by nations who recently ate their neighbour.
  Scotland: England, I hate to bother you, but I can't help noticing how powerful the Kalmar Union are getting
  Kalmar Union: Mwahahahahahaha!
  Scotland: ...Yeah.
• Mr. Exposition: Turkey becomes one as of part 7
• Stupid Evil: Germany would have probably won War World 2 if his Chronic Backstabbing Disorder didn't get the better of him.
• The Alliance: Except not really, see Enemy Mine
• Zany Scheme: The Teutonic order changes his name to Prussia in hopes people sending gifts to Russia will accidentally send them to him, he later remarks that didn't work at all and changes again to Germany.
