Web Animation / Sonic 3 Fate

Go To

Sonic 3 Fate is a webseries by Sensation Studios, serving as a sequel to their previous series, Prey and Sonic 2 Aftermath which just got confirmed to happen.

Eggman ends up on Angel Island and forms an alliance with its guardian Knuckles. It is up to Sonic, Tails, and Chuck to find out what the doctor is up to and stop him.

Unlike the previous series which was based on a creepypasta, this one is an alternate telling of an official game.

The first season can be watched in entirety here.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Chuck wasn't known to be a fighter in most official media and was often easily captured and converted into a robot slave. Here, he one-shots a badnik on his own and seems to be able to teleport. Not only that, but in episode 4, he hit Knuckles into the sky to make it rain.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While Knuckles isn't really stupid, he is known to be constantly fooled by Eggman in canon and straight up believes him when told that Sonic is the bad guy. Here, while he still is allied with Eggman against Sonic he actually makes it clear that he has suspicions of the Doctor's true intentions and is even able to tell that Sonic and Tails (especially Tails) aren't actually evil, even saying he will allow them to roam the island as long as they don't harm it. He thinks Eggman is a hero and Sonic is the villain based on an old prophecy, though he does question if he has the prophecy backwards. Either way, he clearly is smart enough to keep Eggman in check just as much as he is keeping Sonic in check.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Gerald Robotnik was a benevolent scientist until the death of Maria drove him to seeking vengeance against the world before being executed. Here, he is established to be the archrival of Chuck who describes him as pure evil.
    • When Sonic tells Knuckles about other villains he has to put up with, among the list is Ristar who has never been portrayed as evil before and is in fact the hero of his own game without even being part of Sonic's lore.
  • Canon Foreigner: When the gang fall into Hydrocity Zone, they are immediately attacked by King Ax who is a character unique to this series.
  • The Dragon: Both Mecha Sonic models serve as the second in command for Eggman's army.
  • Eye Pop: Eggman has a few of these from when Mecha Sonic crashes into the Death Egg Robot, to finding the master emerald, to being caught off guard by Knuckles.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Eggman states that he never gave Mecha the ability to act on his own, yet he notices that the robot appears to have gained some sentience upon arriving on Angel Island.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Chuck is often portrayed as Sonic's uncle in most official media. Here, the two first meet on the island with their only connection being their similar fates on Angel Island. Subverted come season 3 which reveals that Chuck is indeed still Sonic's uncle in this continuity.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Silver Sonic, referred to as Mecha Sonic Model 01 (or even just MS-01) here, is destroyed by Sonic at the end of Sonic 2. Here, he not only survives the fight, but he plays a vital role in the plot alongside his successor.
