"Royn lives smack dab in the middle of Meneseria... ...a land threatened by the approaching awakening of The Greatest Evil Yet."
Unknown Narrator, ROYN 1

ROYN (Spin-off playlist) is a currently ongoing 2021 8-bit styled fantasy Choose Your Own Adventure web series created by Planet Bobstar in which the most liked comment decides what happens next. The story revolves around the titular Royn, who was chosen by the Gods to be the Hero who will save Meneseria and defeat The Greatest Evil Yet.

ROYN contains examples of:

  • The Chosen One: Both Royn and Hero fall under this trope, being the ones chosen by the Gods to save Meneseria from The Greatest Evil Yet and The Greatest Evil Then, respectively.
  • Death of the Old Gods: In ROYN 24, it is revealed that the Gods are fading, though this is hinted at much earlier.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Many of the characters are only known by their profession, like a character named 'Innkeeper,' another named 'Bartender,' and another literally named 'Barkeep;' Hero falls under this trope as well.
  • Generation Xerox: Though there is no familial connection between them, the characters in Hero's Journey are extremely similar to those in Royn's, as Hero is The Chosen One, Forther is implied to be a Mage, like Hexcast (Mage), and Paisley is, in terms of profession, the opposite to Basilio (Basilio is a baker but tailors as a hobby, whereas Paisley is a tailor but bakes, presumably as a hobby as well.)
  • Genocide Backfire: In ROYN: The Apology, a squadron of North Easterners arrived in Tacith with the intent of completely destroying it, and did mostly succeed. However, one inhabitant was a Mage whose mother and brother were killed in the attack who, when cornered by many North Eastern soldiers, unleashed a powerful spell that instantly erased them.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Though he accompanies Royn and the others, Hexcast (Mage) is very asocial.
  • Heavenly Blue: The Gods are represented with text in a shade of light blue, and the Madatede, the medium through which they talk to humans, is drenched in a heavenly blue light.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: In ROYN 5, Royn engages in a duel against a Nobleman, though the fight ends up being severely unfair, as Nobleman had an Enchanted Sword.
  • Lovable Rogue: Samson and Melocai are both criminals, but have sympathetic motives and personalities. Samson is found operating a false Toll Road in Worthfard, charging people for a free service, but only because he is in debt to help his terribly ill mother. Melocai illegally sells pineapples from the Ostrac Pineapple Company, but they are only undermining their employers due to them having lost their successful family business after the company forbids them from selling homegrown pineapples.
  • The Magocracy: The Mages of Doctrinyard, while not directly having sovereignty over Meneseria, are shown to have political power. The King is known to be working closely with them and is or at least was willing to do them favors, as evidenced by the ambitious project to construct Monasteries around the kingdom for the Mages. Not enough is known about their relationship to determine exactly how much power the Mages have, but they have at least some direct influence over the King, which is already quite significant.
  • Medieval European Fantasy: ROYN takes place in a setting heavily reminiscent of Medieval Europe, though it does have more modern elements, such as Pizza, and even Cupcakes.
  • Not Quite Dead: Though it was thought to be defeated, at the end of ROYN: Two Years Later, it is revealed that The Greatest Evil Then is alive, still able to speak through the Madatede.
  • Pirate: In ROYN 17, the party meets a group of coast guards, who confront them about their (fake) case of the Southwest Pest, convincing the party to stop playing sick, which in turn causes the coast guards to drop their own disguises and reveal they were actually pirates all along.
  • Player Party: Several times across the series, characters are shown joining Royn's party, with Basilio even pointing out the party mechanic of the series in ROYN 11.
  • Playing Sick: From ROYN 15 to ROYN 18, the party is covered in Algae to resemble victims of the Southwest Pest in order to ward off pirates they might meet on their way to Ostrac; this does not work, however, as the pirates were themselves disguised as coast guards, which convince the party to drop the disguise.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The Greatest Evil Yet's palette consists entirely of gray, black, and red.
  • Retraux: The series uses 8-bit visuals based on the graphics of the Commodore 64.
  • Team Pet: In ROYN 16, an Expectant Duck joins the party, and is later named Hexcast (Duck) by the viewers.
  • War Hero: General Andro is a member of the Meneserian military and played a crucial role in driving out the North Eastern armies from mainland Meneseria during their attempted invasion; Royn's history book spends a considerable amount of time praising General Andro for this.
