Two Pokémon end up the human world, with little to no memory of how they got there.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: The Unexpected Arrival (commonly shortened to PMD: The Unexpected Arrival) is a web animation series based on the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon video game series. However, it is the opposite of said game series, as it primarily occurs in the human world.

It is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon web animation series universally referred to as a PMD parody, but it's the opposite storyline and concept of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. PMD: The Unexpected Arrival was created by Angel Dimm and uploaded to YouTube, debuting on New Year's Day of 2023 (January 1, 2023). The series was Cut Short, as it was only a Short-Runner which spanned just 5 episodes due to Angel Dimm suffering from depression, in which PMD: The Unexpected Arrival premiered it's final episode on April 15, 2023.

This series follows the episodic story of how a Pikachu and a Snivy end up in the Human World, where Pokémon only exist in anime, games and manga. It is currently in its first season/chapter.

Watch the series here.

(Why does the word "trope" keep ringing in my head so much?):

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: In the human world Kroohu and Zieix are in, there are colourful Racky is a red human, Blacky is a pitch black human, and the 256 identical officers are cyan coloured humans.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Both of the Pokémon protagonists' names, Kroohu (a Pikachu), and Zieix (a Snivy) is supposed to be a reference and even pun on the creator's last name, as well as his online alias.
  • Fanboy: Racky is a huge Pokémon fan, as he has not only played all of the video games but watched every anime episode and read all of the mangas relating to said franchise as well.
  • Flashback Echo: In Chapter 1, Kroohu sometimes becomes shocked as he unexpectedly remembers an event he may have forgotten throughout his time in his universe before ending up in the human world..
  • Hero Stole My Bike: Or in Blacky's case, "Hero Stole My Car", since Racky is the one who borrowed it in "Kroohu and the Partner Pokémon" to rescue Zieix from being trapped in prison.
  • Identity Amnesia: Kroohu is seen having signs of this in Chapter 1 because he has little to no knowledge of how he even ended up in the human world.
  • Informed Species: "Kroohu and the Unexpected Arrival" shows Racky surprised to see Kroohu (a Pikachu) end up in the human world. He even lampshades how Pokémon do not exist in his universe.
  • Large Ham: Blacky loves to go over the top when emphasising some of the things he says.
  • My Name Is ???: Before a character is officially revealed or mentioned at least once, their names are read as "???".
  • Name Amnesia: Kroohu and Zieix have not only forgotten who they are, but they have also forgotten their names.
  • Only Sane Man: This role usually zigzags between the humanoid cousins, Racky and Blacky (depending on the episode).
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Racky is the fun and talkative red to Blacky's calm, severe and levelheaded blue.
  • Running Over the Plot: In "Kroohu and the Unexpected Arrival", Blacky accidentally runs him over with his car, starting the entire plot of the series.
  • Talking Animal: Kroohu (a Pikachu) and Zieix (a Snivy) are from the Pokémon world and can both talk, like humans in real life can.
