"Should I question this?"
Sammy

The sixth Web Animation series from Jacob Lenard (Mugman, Plancy's World, Evaporate, Pike's Lagoon).

Loose Ends follows the strange, oftentimes dangerous life of Sammy, an average guy with one simple goal in mind: to have a perfectly normal day. Yet through one way or another — whether it be a group of monsters bugging him to subscribe to their "screaming services", a con-artist posing as a plumber, or his haughty upper-class neighbor Rodney, that goal always seems to be unachievable.

Fortunately for Sammy, he's not alone in his misadventures. Accompanying him are Maggie, his adopted alien cyborg daughter of advanced intellect, and Dez, his airheaded but loving girlfriend.

Episodes can be found here.

This work provides examples of:

  • Ax-Crazy: Derby. In her debut episode, she's shown to take her position as top bowler so seriously that the mere thought of losing it to Dez is enough to have her threaten to maim Rodney several times.
  • The Bus Came Back: "Falling Into Place" features Johnny and Papa, two human characters from Mugman who were retired.
  • The Comically Serious: Spud Razor, who acts like a grizzled veteran even in a trivial situation like whale-watching.
    • Maggie oftentimes is this as well.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Sammy's life, as well as the whole series, is built around this concept. No matter what he does or tries, he can never seem to make it through a single day without some bizarre misfortune or setback falling upon him.
  • Good Parents: While Sammy may not be in control over the things that happen to him, that doesn't stop him from being a loving and attentive father to Maggie.
  • Happily Adopted: A flashback episode reveals that Maggie was born on a faraway planet and launched into space by her parents during a cataclysmic event, very much like Superman. Said cataclysm was quickly sorted out, but by then it was too late, and The Stinger for the episode shows that Maggie's birth parents are in Earth's orbit...
  • Innocent Prodigy: Maggie may have the kind of extensive knowledge expected from an alien cyborg, but she still behaves very much like the little girl she is, especially when it comes to whales.
  • Machine Monotone: Maggie talks using a text-to-speech engine. A flashback episode reveals her entire race talks like this, only they speak in an unintelligible language that requires onscreen subtitles.
  • Mythology Gag: Many, with characters and elements from Lenard's past projects making frequent cameos.
  • Once an Episode: Butterslick always shows up for a quick gag, usually with a single nonsensical line.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Apart from being a dick in general, Rodney isn't the brightest bulb in the bunch. In "The Screaming Service", he's shown reading a book in bed, only to say that he wishes he could read.

Rodney Snobb

Sammy's snobbish rival has a lot of wealth and not a lot of intelligence or maturity.
