...in the Great Oppressor timeline is called Endless.- The dev team's name is System Erasure, and Erasure is the name of the military AI in-universe. When you beat the Steam version of the game, you get the game's sole Steam achievement, System Endless.
- In White Vanilla, the True Final Boss's flunkies are known as Erasure Fighters. In Light Mode (White Vanilla in the Great Oppressor timeline), they're known as Endless Fighters.
- The number 8 is a recurring Numerological Motif: You can have up to 8 continues and 8 shields, there's 8 total stages, and the maximum remaining-lives bonus in Green Orange / Normal Mode is 8,888. The game makes extensive use of Buddhist themes; Buddhist virtues are summed up in what's known as the Noble Eightfold Path
. 8 rotated sideways is the infinity symbol, and "endless" is a synonym for "infinite".
