The entire "glitch" was the LE's doing

Our main hero posthumously ran out of money - it was all spent on being kept frozen. For the company to just proceed would mean, for them, to work at considerable loss. But LE didn't wish to just let him finally die: maybe it is forbidden by law, or they were just afraid of the possible damage to the reputation if it became widely known. So they concocted another plan - to make him decide to wake up on his own. That's why they began inserting ever less subtle clues as to the artificial character of his reality and made him suffer severely enough that he wouldn't opt for continuation of the dream afterwards, if just for fear of the situation being repeated.
