Reconciling newer games with the comic's canon
Some possible explanations for how this comic can still be compatible with Guns of the Patriots, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. UNMARKED SPOILERS AHOY!
  • Mantis not remembering Liquid could be reconciled with the surgical scars visible on his head in-game. The implied brain surgery may have messed with his memories somehow. This would also explain how he sucked at creating "zombies" when he was able to mind-control the zombie-like Man on Fire just fine (well, that and the fact that the Man on Fire was "only" brain-dead).
  • Big Boss's "ghost" may have been Astral Projection. The guy's been around the world and might have picked up a few more esoteric techniques after his encounter with the supernatural. It would also explain how he was still sane-ish after suffering Locked-In Syndrome while in Patriot custody after the Zanzibarland Crisis.
  • If Liquid lacks memories of his old life, Ocelot would have every reason to not want him to remember his childhood, particularly Ocelot's role in it.
  • Miller mentioned that he deliberately avoided getting replacement limbs because he "needed [his] pain" to remind himself of his desire for vengeance against Skull Face. Between fulfilling his revenge and seeing Big Boss' fall from grace, he decided to finally get a set of donor limbs as a way of moving on from his hateful former life.
  • Campbell was just tongue-tied when he called Dr. Clark "he." And so was Grey Fox when he was in the spirit world. Somehow.
  • The differences in the details about Big Boss’s 1975 coma could be the result of him just lying to keep the truth a secret. Raising Liquid could have happened after the cut end of The Phantom Pain, showing the divergence between the much more traumatized Venom Snake and Big Boss, who didn’t have to live with the events of the game. Just because Venom abandoned Liquid doesn’t mean Big Boss did.
  • When Miller and Big Boss first met in 1972 he was first assigned into FOXHOUND just before Big Boss cut ties with the organization completely and formed MSF. That way Miller was technically one of the first agents of FOXHOUND like he claimed to Liquid. Also, after he accidentally blew up house full of hostages on his first mission Miller and Big Boss agreed to never talk about it again, with the latter's Astral Projection only bringing it up 30~ years later just to troll him.
