WMG for the TV show New Tricks.
This is based on the Four Temperamemt Ensemble trope. The original characters fit the temperaments perfectly, creating a set of four strong and different personalities to play off each other. The replacement members muddle the temperaments, Ted resembles Choleric/Melsncjolic or Phlegmatic mix, Sasha mixes some Sanguine into the Choleric, Steve seems to mix the Sanguine and Phlegmatic types, Danny is the Melsncholic in a different way.
To create a different quad of separate personalities, replacing Dan with a Phlegmatic/melsncholicmix would work: Someone generally low key, friendly, and detail oriented. Fiona fits this welll, plus could be a person who knows a lot of random stuff. When Brian leaves, this creates a smooth transition with a different personslity in the replacement that still fills holes in the team. When Ted joins, it leaves more room for him to be a fleshed out eccentric character.
To add a second, related WMG: since a lack of chemistry is the big issue with the new team, this change would have kept the show going for another season or two.
He's a former Detective Sergeant, which is what George's rank was in The Sweeney. Part of his background is that he changed his name, so it's not inconceivable that he might have done so more than once...
- Presumably George Carter was then a code name to avoid retaliation, and Gerry Standing is the actual name, since his relatives recognize him by that name, (Or Gerarde Lestade, changed to Standing)
It’s made clear he knew about the abuse Harry was subjecting Gloria and Tom to and did in fact threaten to kill him if it continued. Also it’s made clear that Gloria wasn’t trained in meat cutting and Harry was skilfully cut up.Most Likely Gloria called Norman in after Tom stabbed Harry to death and he did so to protect her and Tom, unwilling to use Gerry over what happened with Danny Pay.
