     Pre-Release
This film will show Madam Leota’s origin story.
There is a shot in the trailer of a living woman in a psychic’s outfit. One could assume this is Leota and we will see how she died and became bound to the mansion either in the present or in a flashback.
  • Confirmed. She is Leota, and The Hatbox Ghost trapped her in her own crystal ball.

The ghosts (outside Constance) aren’t evil.
Eventually, the ghost hunters will realize the ghosts aren’t malicious and that the mansion is just a retirement home for ghosts as it is in the ride. Only Constance is a threat and she is the one the characters will have to deal with.
  • Played with. Constance is a threat and so are the other ghosts initially. Once The Hatbox ghost is defeated, the mansion becomes close to the retirement home.

The Hatbox Ghost will help the ghost hunters in dealing with Constance.
Going off the above theory, the Hatbox Ghost will reveal to the ghost hunters that he knows how to bring Constance to justice, using his disappearing head trick to indicate where the bride hid her grooms' heads.
  • Jossed. The Hatbox Ghost is the villain, and Constance is under his sway, protecting the crystal ball containing Madame Leota.

Some of the ghost hunters will die and become ghosts, get possessed, or were secretly ghosts the whole time.
There are shots in the of Stanfield and DeVito’s characters showing off what appear to be supernatural powers.
  • There is a shot in the main trailer of a ghost flying into the body of Stanfield’s character, his eyes shapeshifting briefly to match the ghost’s.
  • Played with. None of the characters that enter the house are actually ghosts but both Ben and Bruce do get possessed at separate points.

Owen Wilson's character is not a real priest.

In the trailer he says "If this comes down to an exorcism, we're all in big trouble." Perhaps he can't do the exorcism?

Travis later asks if he's a real priest after he gives a prayer.

  • Confirmed, he states that he works at a Halloween supply store and dresses as a priest to pretend to clear supposedly haunted houses for extra money. Though at the end, after a Time Skip, he states that he was inspired to become fully ordained.

The Hatbox Ghost or Constance will have a Villain Song
Well, how else could it be magnificent or fantastic including excellent of a villain having an excellent Villain Song.
  • Jossed. No villain song for for either character.

The Guests will finally be free
Once they stop and defeat The Hatbox Ghost including the curse, the rest of its inhabitants will be freed and leave The Haunted Mansion.
  • Played with. After defeating The Hatbox Ghost, the ghosts decide to stay in the mansion due to growing fond of it.

The Ghosts are Good
Well it could be that they were only working with The Hatbox Ghost because the latter forced them to do his work.
  • Played with. It's true that the ghosts were forced to work for him, the only ghost to be truly "Not Good" is that of Constance.

    Post-Release
The film is in a shared universe with other Disney properties.

Pontetial ideas for the next antagonist in the Sequel.
